Every vessel starts as a set of lines.

Mahé Design is an independent naval architecture and design consultancy. I take a client’s requirements and turn them into a hull, an arrangement and a form that can be presented, costed and built on.

Concept-stage work, taken far enough to be believed.

Most projects arrive as a requirement rather than a drawing: a route, a passenger count, a speed, a propulsion choice, a budget. The work below is what turns that into something a client can put in front of a yard, an investor or a regulator.

  • Naval architecture

Hull form and overall configuration developed against the performance the vessel actually has to deliver, the part that decides whether everything drawn afterwards holds up.

  • General arrangement

How the vessel is laid out: decks, spaces, seating, access and machinery resolved into an arrangement that works for the people on board and the crew running it.

  • Exterior design

The 3D exterior form, developed to the client’s requirements and taken to a standard that can be rendered and published, as with the concept below.

Electric catamaran concept

2026

An electric catamaran developed for a marine innovation consultancy, destined for the Hong Kong market.

Mahé Design was responsible for the naval architecture, general arrangement and exterior design: the vessel’s overall configuration and its 3D exterior form, developed to the client’s requirements. The concept has since been presented publicly and picked up in the marine trade press.

M5 Superyacht

2012-2013

S/Y M5 is a 78-metre high-performance sailing superyacht, the world’s largest sloop, renowned for her exceptional size.

M5 is a large sailing superyacht project combining performance, refined exterior lines and a spacious, carefully considered general arrangement. I contributed to the naval architecture and design development, notably her extensive refit in 2012, the keel modifications and stern extension.

A small practice, by design.

Mahé Design is led by Brendan Mahé and works directly with international marine businesses and consultancies. Clients deal with the person doing the drawing, from the first conversation to the last revision.

Work spans concept development for new vessel types, including electrically propelled craft, through to the exterior form that carries a project into the public domain.

Tell me what the vessel has to do.

Route, passenger numbers, speed, propulsion, the constraints you’re already stuck with, that’s usually enough to say whether the idea works and what it would take to draw it.
